Ammar film festival opens in Fars

The 13th Ammar Popular Film Festival opened in Iran's Fars Province.

The 13th edition of the Ammar Popular Film Festival has been opened in the southern province of Fars.

The opening ceremony took place on Wednesday in the highly revered Shah Cheragh shrine in the city of Shiraz in memory of the martyrs of the October terrorist attack that was claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.

On October 26, just before the evening prayers, a terrorist opened fire indiscriminately on visitors within the Shah Cheragh shrine, leaving 15 pilgrims, including a lady and two children, dead, and at least 40 others injured.

The assailant was injured and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The works selected to take part in the Ammar Popular Film Festival will be screened at Felestine Cinema in Tehran and will be available online on Ammaryar.ir.

The winners will be announced during a closing ceremony on January 12.

The Ammar film festival goes against the promotion of “individualism and extreme enjoyment without caring about the society's troubles”, website of the event reads.

The festival aims “to raise real awareness and responsibility among the general public,” it says, adding that the event’s mission is to create an atmosphere in which independent filmmakers and thinkers can gather together.
